Since 2013, we have welcomed startups, industry, academics, government and community organisations to our innovation hub.

After more than a decade as a home for innovators, entrepreneurs, researchers and community partners, Engine Shed will close its doors in December 2026 – marking the end of a chapter that has shaped Bristol’s innovation landscape. Each year, over 30,000 people use Engine Shed to connect, collaborate and innovate.

The team behind Engine Shed will transition across to the new Sloane Robinson Building to run the Bristol Innovations Zone, the University of Bristol’s home for collaborative innovation. The original Engine Shed building is at Temple Meads station in the original terminus building designed by Isambard Kingdom Brunel. The building provides a Members’ Lounge, 5 meeting rooms, 4 event spaces, 3 coworking spaces and 18 offices.

Both Engine Shed and the Sloane Robinson Building are part of the Bristol Temple Quarter redevelopment scheme, the UK’s largest and most ambitious urban regeneration project. The redevelopment will create 22,000 new jobs, 10,000 new homes and bring £1.6 billion a year to the city economy.
