A gateway to enterprise for Bristol & Bath

A platform for collaboration

Engine Shed is a collaboration between Bristol City Council, the University of Bristol and the West of England Local Enterprise Partnership at the heart of Temple Quarter Enterprise Zone. Our mission is to stimulate long term economic growth by supporting business, inspiring young people to get involved and to showcase to the public and potential inward investors the exciting opportunities that exist here.

Objectives

  • To kick-start growth in the Enterprise Zone
  • To be a thriving hub for all things enterprise and growth and an iconic “front of house” for the LEP area
  • To co-locate existing and synergistic assets
  • To create an exciting meeting point – a ‘crucible’ – for academics, entrepreneurs, investors, corporates and students
  • To be self-sustaining
  • To experiment and evolve a model for future development
  • To help create a diverse workforce for the future
  • To stimulate the investment eco-system

The Engine Shed story

Find out about the rich and varied past of Brunel’s Engine Shed from its completion in 1841, being the first station in the world to house an engine shed, passenger hall, ticket office and goods area, as well as stabling for hundreds of horses and an engineering shop, to being home to The Exploratory followed by the Empire and Commonwealth Museum through to Brunel’s Old Station events venue which now runs alongside its new inhabitant, Engine Shed.
