About the components

Engine Shed is made up of a number of ‘components’ which together deliver on our mission.

The primary components are listed below and will change over time as the ‘cocktail’ of activities we require to stimulate growth change. Gluing these together are the secondary components: the Business Lounge, the Boardroom Suite, events and projects.

Together these components will allow Engine Shed to create jobs, inspire and inform the local population and allow potential inward investors to experience the depth and breadth of innovation, capability and opportunity that exists in the region.

The Bristol SETsquared Centre, one of 5 such centres across southern England, accelerates early-stage, high-tech, high growth businesses, regardless of any previous connection with the universities.

The Centre provides coaching, mentoring, workshops, investor readiness training, access to professional advisers, access to our global network, investor showcase events and office space.

Subscribe to the monthly newsletter to hear news and updates from the Bristol SETsquared Centre, as well as catch up on our member news, events, opportunities and more.

Co-working at Engine Shed provides you with space to work as an individual, great wi-fi and the company of like-minded people in a flexible way to suit your own working style. The cost is £3.80 per hour or £20 per day.

You can turn up to work at one of our 6 desks in the Saloon Car which each have an additional screen and a lamp and the space has natural daylight – you just need to bring your own laptop. You can also use the space in the Business Lounge for meetings. We have £1 coin operated lockers for your stuff if you want to leave it here when you go for lunch.

The Interchange offers workspace to strategic organisations and inward investment services.

The following companies currently have workdesks in the Interchange:

Invest Bristol and Bath – the region’s inward investment agency. Supporting foreign direct investment, UK national companies and those companies already here as they grow and expand.
TechSPARK – the information hub and network for all things tech in the West.

Business West – help businesses to start, innovate and export with an aim to make this area the best place to live and work.
GW4 – the GW4 Alliance brings together four of the most research-intensive and innovative universities in the UK; the universities of Bath, Bristol, Cardiff and Exeter.
Bristol Is Open – a joint venture between the University of Bristol and Bristol City Council. The project launched in April 2015 and will provide Bristol City with a fully flexible, programmable and open ICT experimental platform.

Launched on 2 Dec 15 and located adjacent to the Engine Shed, twenty shipping containers were craned into position in September and transformed into custom-designed workspace for the creative, digital and high-tech industries.

Boxworks is a meanwhile project that will run for up to two and a half years.  It was designed, built and is operated commercially by Forward® with services provided by Engine Shed, including access to the iconic Business Lounge, for the 120 occupants.
