By Georgie Burr – Engagement Officer, Engine Shed
Over the past, few months Engine Shed has been calling out for project ideas on how to support diversity in the future workforce of the West of England Region. The outcome of this call will be a partnership between Engine Shed and the winning proposal, which will see the idea become a reality with the support of funding and development assistance.
When the call closed on Monday 18th September, we were impressed with the quality and variety of the 18 applications we received. Shortlisting these down to 8 was no easy task, and we are so grateful to the 8 cross-regional and sector judges who came from BANES, Bristol, S.Glos and N.Somerset councils, IOP publishing, Priory Academy, OSCAR and youth engagement backgrounds. Their experience was key in making the difficult decisions.
The 8 shortlisted projects will go on to pitch their ideas to a live audience in 3 minutes slots next week and this is where you come in…
Come and join us, on the 10th October for a lively evening of ideas pitching and inspirational talks, where you will hear from the 8 shortlisted applicants, and be asked to give your feedback on their projects.
Engine Shed will be collecting your votes on the evening to help us make our decision on which project(s) you think we should take forward and fund, as well as who you think should win the £500 ‘People’s Choice’ award, which will be announced on the night.
The evening will be chaired by science communicator and founder of the ‘Minorities in STEM’ network Alex Lathbridge, who will be joined by Engine Shed Director Nick Sturge and engineer and founder of ‘Womens Tech Hub,’ Serrie Chapman. With time allocated to network, we encourage attendees to talk to new people; the evening presents an opportunity to make connections, and help us to accelerate diversity in our future workforce.
Book your place now, and join us from 6 – 8.30pm on 10th October to hear our shortlist of pitches from partners looking to work with Engine Shed on engaging young people – and cast your vote for your favourite
